Journey to Western India: A Memorable Train Ride to IIMA

The email from IIM Ahmedabad inviting me for a personal interview was not just an opportunity but a milestone in my professional journey.

With excitement and a bit of nervousness, I set out for this adventure, my destination being the prestigious Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

The Train Ride In Ashram Express
My journey began in Delhi as I boarded the Ashram Express in the first-class AC coach. The cabin was a sanctuary of comfort, with clean linens, spacious seating, and an air of exclusivity. As the train began its rhythmic glide, I felt the excitement of travel blending with the anticipation of the upcoming interview.

The route was a visual treat. Fields stretched endlessly under the golden sun as we passed through Haryana and Rajasthan. The subtle shift in the landscape hinted at Gujarat’s proximity, where the arid terrain carried its own beauty. The train staff was courteous, ensuring that every need was met.

The food was another highlight freshly prepared and served with care. My dinner, a vegetarian meal with soft chapatis, dal and a sweet dessert, was not only filling but also a delightful introduction to Gujarati flavors. The night journey, accompanied by the train's gentle sway, was serene and rejuvenating.

Arrival in Ahmedabad
Arriving at Sabarmati Railway Station the next morning, I was greeted by the bustling energy of Ahmedabad. The air carried a mix of history and progress, and the city’s charm unfolded as I made my way to the IIMA campus.

Life on the IIMA Campus
The IIMA campus is a world of its own. The iconic red-brick structures designed by Louis Kahn exude a timeless elegance, while the greenery and serene walkways create a peaceful atmosphere. As I checked into my accommodation, I was struck by how thoughtfully everything was arranged. The room was clean and comfortable, setting the perfect tone for the day ahead.

Walking around the campus, I observed students immersed in discussions and activities. The intellectual vibrancy was palpable, and it felt humbling to be part of such an inspiring environment, even if just for a short while.

The Interview Experience
The day of the interview began early. After a quick breakfast, I made my way to the HR office. The panelists were warm yet professional, making the experience both challenging and enriching. They asked thought-provoking questions, encouraging me to present my ideas and experiences confidently. It was an intense yet rewarding session, and I left the room feeling optimistic and motivated.

Reflection of the journey
After the interview, I spent some time soaking in the campus environment. The Harvard steps and the expansive courtyards stood as symbols of open dialogue and collaborative learning. It was inspiring to think of the countless conversations and ideas that had been nurtured here. It was a journey of growth, exploration, and discovery. The comfort of the train ride, the beauty of Ahmedabad, and the intellectual aura of IIMA made this experience unforgettable.

The journey to IIMA was a reminder that opportunities often lead us to places where we can learn, grow and challenge ourselves. Whether or not I secure the position, this trip has already added immense value to my life. The Western India charm, combined with IIMA’s legacy, will always hold a special place in my memories.
