Cultural Glimpse of Mithila at NIT Patna: Enthralling Performances of Jhinjhiya and Jat-Jatin Dance
Patna/Madhubani:- The BCE-NIT Patna Alumni Society organized its Annual Alumni Meet to mark the 101st anniversary of the institution. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from former students, many of whom attended with their children and grandchildren.
Reunion of Old Memories at the Alumni Meet
From the early morning, the campus was abuzz with excitement, as alumni met their old friends after years, reminiscing about their college days. They exchanged mobile numbers, clicked group photographs and selfies, and relived their cherished moments. During lunch, alumni gathered in small groups, sharing fond memories from their college days. As the evening set in, the event became more vibrant with the melodious tunes of the orchestra, adding a musical charm to the reunion. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Sanjay Kumar (Secretary, BCE-NIT Alumni Society) and Dr. Sanjeev Sinha (Treasurer, BCE-NIT Alumni Society).
Academic Achievements Highlighted by NIT Director
Addressing the gathering, Prof. P.K. Jain, Director of NIT Patna, shed light on the institution’s academic achievements, advancements in technical education, and research contributions. He spoke about the institute’s progress over the years, its key milestones, and future aspirations. The President of the Alumni Society, Prof. Santosh Kumar, warmly welcomed all the guests and expressed gratitude for their continuous support and contributions to the institution.
Cultural Extravaganza by VSJ College Students: A Show of Art and Tradition
A major highlight of the event was the cultural performances presented by the students of VSJ College’s Cultural Committee and NSS Unit, under the guidance of Dr. Bibha Kumari (Coordinator, Cultural Committee & NSS Program Officer). The students showcased mesmerizing solo and group dance performances, leaving the audience spellbound.
Solo Performance on Mahishasuramardini Stotra
The cultural segment began with a solo dance performance by Kajal Kumari on the devotional hymn "Ayi Giri Nandini", a part of the Mahishasuramardini Stotra. The graceful execution of this classical dance set a spiritual and artistic tone for the evening.
Traditional Jhinjhiya Dance: A Glimpse of Mithila’s Rich Culture
Following this, the students presented a traditional Jhinjhiya dance, a folk performance deeply rooted in Mithila culture. Jhinjhiya is performed by women as an offering to Goddess Durga, seeking prosperity and well-being.
The students’ vibrant rhythmic footwork, colorful attire, and synchronized movements brought out the true essence of this folk tradition, receiving immense appreciation from the audience.
Jat-Jatin Dance: A Tale of Rural Life and Relationships
The most awaited performance of the evening was the Jat-Jatin dance, an iconic folk dance of Mithila, which beautifully portrays the struggles of a farming community and the nuances of a husband-wife relationship. For generations, Mithila women have expressed their joys, sorrows, and social realities through Jat-Jatin songs and dance. The students captivated the audience with their expressive storytelling and graceful choreography. The performers included Kajal Kumari, Anjali Kumari, Laadli Kumari, Pooja Kumari, and Kritika Kumari. Notably, Dr. Vibha Kumari also joined the students in this performance, making it even more special.

At the end of the program, Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Secretary of BCE-NIT Alumni Association, praised the students for their exceptional performances and extended his best wishes for their bright future. The event saw a distinguished presence of former BCE-NIT students, who cherished the nostalgic moments and expressed their commitment to supporting future alumni gatherings.
